Last week, we looked at Clause 4.3, "Determining the Scope of the OH&S Management System." This week, we shall take a look at Clause 4.4, "OH&S Management System.
Clause 4.4, "OH&S Management System.
The organisation shall establish, implement , maintain and continually improve an OH&S management system, including the processes needed and their interactions , in accordance with the requirements of this document
This means the organization should simply establish the management system and all of the associated processes, with evidence in the form of documented information. These are required to meet the standard. The organization must determine what these processes are and how they are applied within the company. Simply put, if you meet all the requirements in the other clauses contained within the ISO 45001 document, you have met the Clause 4.4 requirements-QED.
Understanding the process approach will give you a clear understanding of the requirements in this clause. For ISO 45001, these processes are integrated into standard business processes because health and safety are usually not separated from daily business operations.
In practical terms, as mentioned before, all clauses from Clause 4 to Clause 10 are interrelated. For example, regarding the internal issues determined in Clause 4, if Lucmar Automobile Solutions Limited fails to provide PPE, the company faces potential regulatory fines. This operational risk is then captured in the policy statement in Clause 5. Consequently, we create a plan to provide PPE in Clause 6 and allocate the resources to procure it in Clause 7. In Clause 8, we implement this plan; we then monitor it in Clause 9, and based on the performance review, we improve upon it in Clause 10. This example demonstrates the interrelationship explained above in general terms.
This concludes our look at Clause 4. We will focus on Clause 5 next week. Thank you! I appreciate your warm wishes and look forward to hearing your thoughts.
