We would expect curiosity, professionalism, respect for the process, and strong preparation (ie understanding of the auditee/client). Would also expect the observer to bring an open mind, observe closely, and offer constructive feedback on the Lead Auditor's body language and soft skills. Most importantly, the observer is very much a part of the team, so looking for opportunities, ideas and improvements would be appropriate, because a good audit should do more than check compliance, it should help people, systems and businesses get better/innovate.
