    I've been seeing a lot of chatter here in the Community (and just about everywhere else) around AI. Whether we like it or not, it's here to stay so I suggest you get on board before you are completely left behind. 

    But I want to know, how are you specifically using AI in your work? 

    I'd love to hear things like:

    • Which platform do you use? (ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Claude, Gemini, etc.)
    • What tasks has it been most helpful for?
    • Do you have any prompts or tips that have saved you time?
    • If you're new to AI, what's holding you back or what would you like to learn?
    • Are there areas where you think AI should not be used?

    No matter where you are on your AI journey your perspective is valuable.

    Let's learn from each other and maybe even help someone take their first step!

    I only use AI (Gemini and Microsoft Copilot) for editing my audit reports and searching information about industries practice or specific production operations.

    I may use it to finalize my checklists for the new version of the MS standards (ISO 14001:2026, ISO 9001:2026, etc.).

    Hi Jamie,

    I use Microsoft Copilot daily, but probably not in the ways most people expect.

    It's excellent for drafting and refining email responses, standardising formatting in reports, and cleaning up content copied from multiple sources (dates, abbreviations, file names, quotes, references, etc.). It saves a surprising amount of time on document quality and consistency.

    I also use it heavily with spreadsheets, particularly to analyse and summarise large datasets such as risk registers, compliance obligations, legislative registers, audit findings, and corrective actions. Rather than making decisions, it helps identify trends, outliers, gaps, and areas that warrant further human review.

    I also use AI to manage audit travel. It can take booking confirmations, calendar appointments, and travel instructions, and build a detailed Outlook itinerary with departure reminders, airport transfers, hire car collection and refuelling stops, accommodation check-ins, and other travel actions. For frequent travellers, it's like having a personal travel coordinator.

    For auditing and consulting, AI is a powerful assistant, but not a decision-maker. I use it to improve efficiency and focus attention, while professional judgement, evidence evaluation, and conclusions remain the responsibility of the auditor or consultant.

    Thanks for this thread.  It is really great to see the many different ways auditors can use AI. 

    I have been hesitant to use AI because I have noticed that it can make mistakes and generalize content when I need more details.  An initial search with Gemini might give me a quick synopsis but then I spend a lot of time sifting through the resources to verify that the content is legitimate.  Although I use AI (Gemini and Copilot) to assist in formatting emails, audit checklists, audit plans and reports, I still spend a lot of time reading and editing the AI generated content because I want it to sound like it was written by a human.  I have used Copilot to send me reminders for important dates and reminders and analyzing data in spreadsheets for trends.  I look forward to hearing more ways in which AI has made things more efficient as an auditor and I hope to use it more in the future.

    I wrote a reply on my own, but figured I'd have CoPilot rewrite it a couple of different ways for me:

    v.1

    For me, general AI is mostly just a nice, ad‑free way to look things up.

    Sometimes I have it proofread or rephrase bits of what I write, but I usually feed it small sections so I can keep better control over what actually changes.

    It's not perfect. I've told an AI, "Hey, summarize section 7 of this document," and it happily summarized a completely different section like nothing was wrong.

    I've also used Copilot to cross‑check standards. It usually finds the right documents… just not always the most up‑to‑date ones. And every now and then, it matches the right title with a totally unrelated document number.

    General‑purpose AI has essentially become my frictionless, ad‑free knowledge acceleration engine.

    I periodically leverage it for micro‑editing workflows - proofreading, rephrasing, and iterative content refinement - executed in modular segments so I can maintain precision control over narrative transformation.

    Of course, there are still operational pain points. I've asked an AI to "summarize Section 7 of this attached document" and watched it generate a high‑confidence summary… of an entirely different section.

    I've also deployed Copilot for cross‑referencing mission‑critical standards, and while it often identifies the correct documents, it doesn't always surface the most current revision baselines. Sometimes it even nails the title perfectly but pairs it with non‑aligned document identifiers, which creates an avoidable compliance drift.

    Where I have found it genuinely useful is the preparation end. Turning a messy pile of client documents into a shortlist of things worth looking at, or checking that my checklist has not quietly dropped a clause. What I never let it near is the finding itself, because a nonconformity has to trace back to something I actually saw and to a specific requirement, and the moment you cannot say where a sentence came from you have lost the trail that makes the finding defensible.

    The pattern Shane described, confident output pointing at the wrong section, is exactly why I treat anything it gives me as an unverified claim rather than an answer. When I train auditors I put it in the same box as any other source of information, which is that it can tell you where to look but it can never be your evidence.
