Did you know that the word "engineer" comes from the Latin word "ingenium," which means cleverness or talent?

This reflects the creativity and problem-solving skills essential to the profession of engineering.

Thomas Edison holds a record 1093 patents.  He sure was a clever, problem-solving innovator!

What a great post, Gina! The concept of "ingenium" captures the roots of engineering. It's fascinating to look at the late 19th century, when James Clerk Maxwell's theories and Heinrich Hertz's experiments first laid the groundwork for our understanding of electromagnetic waves.

Their discoveries still underpin the physics of EMC testing and standards. Hertz's spark-gap transmitter is a perfect example of that early ingenuity. There are incredible recreations that demonstrate the same cleverness drives practitioners' work in the field today.
