  • 1.  Collaboration

Engineers and Technicians rarely work in isolation.  I'm sure you collaborate with EMC, ESD & mechanical engineers/technicians along with software developers, project managers and non-technical stakeholders often.

How do you approach working on multidisciplinary teams?

How difficult is it to explain your concepts to the non-technical stakeholders?

I wish to share my experience working with multidisciplinary engineering team. I love to use analogies to explain compliance engineering terminology to mechanical and software engineers.

    Some examples:

    1. electric current is similar to water, flowing from high potential to low potential.
    2. EMC dissipation is similar as heat transfer, having heat source, transmission path and sink.
    3. Test report is similar to passport, while local certification is similar to visa. Some country only need passport but some need additional visa.
    4. Safety design principle shall strictly following priority: inherent safe design, next safeguards, and lastly instruction for use.
      1. For instance designing a knife:
      2. must have a functional sharp blade (thus is inherently unsafe, sharp edges hazard)
      3. Therefore need a safeguard (to design a blade cover when not in use)
      4. and/or provide a instruction for use (warning: keep away from children)
